*Qatar among the safest countries in the world: Staff Major General al-Khulaifi

Qatar ranks in the list of the safest nations in the world and this is a reflection of the stability, safety and peace prevailing in the country, HE Director General of Public Security Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi has said.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), he touched on many topics related to the efforts of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and its success in the field of security and services as well as its preparations for the future including securing the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
HE al-Khulaifi said Qatar has remained peaceful though the region witnessed crises and terrorist attacks. "This is an indication of the strength of the security structure in Qatar which has been confirmed by the international indicators."
Among the major achievements of the MoI, he mentioned the successful implementation of strategies in accordance with the plans and policies of the government.
Compared to global levels, the crime situation in Qatar is negligible even though the population has grown rapidly over the past years, he said.
The Ministry of Interior has paid attention to services and transactions and making them accessible to all electronically (either through Metrash 2 or through the website), he said adding it is a priority for the MoI to ensure security and stability allover the country. "To achieve this goal, the security and service system is updated continuously."
The Director General of Public Security said major crimes amounted to only 3 % of the total number of criminal offences committed in 2016, while the rate of serious crimes have also decreased by 12.9% compared to previous years.
HE al-Khulaifi told QNA that the Ministry of the Interior has an electronic security system equipped with advanced appliances and qualified personnel to protect all state institutions in light of the many hacking attempts, stressing the importance of this system and its role in protecting and securing the Qatar World Cup 2022.
On the role played by the ministry in the preparations for the World Cup, HE al-Khulaifi said it is part of the Security Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC).
He said: "The security committee handles all security tasks related to securing competitive and non-competitive facilities, in addition to securing buildings and other procedures related to securing the flow of traffic, entry and exit from stadiums and various sports facilities."
"In this context, we are working with a clear training plan in building the human and technical capabilities of police and security personnel."
Qatar has great experiences in the field of securing sports events, and "therefore the 2022 World Cup will be the safest and the most enjoyable, so everyone is welcome in Qatar," he said.
The Director General of Public Security said "these successes come despite the unjust siege imposed on Qatar". But Qatar has struck a great example for resilience and professionalism and continued to move towards achieving goals with determination, he said.
The wise directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the prompt follow-up by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani have helped Qatar top the region in the peace index.
HE al-Khulaifi said such international recognition refutes allegations and fabrications that the siege was imposed because Qatar supports terrorism.
He said Qatar was able counter all malicious attempts by the siege countries to undermine its security and sovereignty. Dialogue is the only way to resolve the Gulf dispute, he asserted.
The senior official also pointed out that the Ministry of Interior
has established a special, fully equipped, building for the coasts and borders security, which will be opened soon.
