ConocoPhillips shared insights into “the crude oil and natural gas market outlook in the context of global production and current demands” at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently.
The lecture was presented by Dr Helen Currie, chief economist at ConocoPhillips and she spoke on ‘Global natural gas markets and energy security — current issues and future directions’.
Dr Currie shared insights into the crude oil and natural gas market outlook in the context of global production and current demands.
“ConocoPhillips aims to meet the world’s growing energy needs in sustainable and integrated ways,” Dr Currie said.
“As the world’s largest independent E&P company, ConocoPhillips believes in responsible development of the global energy industry.  In this context, these academic and interactive opportunities enable us to share important lessons and support the local knowledge-sharing economy.”
Speaking to science and engineering students and faculty, Dr Currie provided a comprehensive assessment of the symbiotic relationship of geopolitics and the global energy market.
Her presentation examined unconventional technology advancements, the US national gas pipeline network, and the rising significance of liquefied natural gas exports.
During her three-day visit to Doha, Dr Currie met with Dr Susan L Karamanian, dean, College of Law and Public Policy (HBKU), and a number of industry leaders in the national oil and gas sector.
As an expert in commodity markets analysis, public policy, and economics, Dr Currie holds regular speaking engagements at academic institutions and ascertains current and future outlooks of the oil and gas industry worldwide. A former finance professor and economic analyst with 25 years of energy industry experience, Dr Currie joined ConocoPhillips in 2001. Her primary role focuses on strategic initiatives and scenarios, investment analysis, public policy, and long-range plan development.
This forward-thinking collaboration transpired from the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between HBKU and the Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development, of which ConocoPhillips has a long and committed partnership.
The fundamental aim of the MoU is to support the legacy of fostering knowledge-based society, in Qatar and beyond.
Karamanian said, “We were delighted that Dr Currie was able to take time out of her busy schedule to share her expertise about the outlook for the crude oil and natural gas market. Her insights were highly relevant to the work of our students and faculty, particularly given the focus of the HBKU College of Law and Public Policy on energy law and sustainable development.  For our college overall, we appreciate the dedication of Dr Currie and her ConocoPhillips colleagues to education. Their leadership, in particular, has enabled us to better understand an industry that is critical to Qatar, the region and the world beyond.”
ConocoPhillips advances knowledge in Qatar through a variety of activities, including academic partnership and its Global Water Sustainability Center, located at the Qatar Science and Technology Park.
