Alfardan Properties organised a road safety awareness event as part of its continuous efforts towards creating a culture of safe driving.
The event, held on November 17 at Alfardan Gardens (AFG), highlighted the need to mitigate the risks and challenges related to driving, especially given the increasing number of vehicles on the road, as well as the number of young drivers in the country.
The road safety awareness drive saw the participation of several leading government entities such as the Ministry of Interior through the Traffic Department and Community Police Department, Qatar Transportation Traffic Safety Centre at Qatar University, Qatar Red Crescent  Society (QRCS) and Hamad International Training Centre.
In addition, Jaguar and BMW, some of the class-leading, segment-defining luxury cars under Alfardan Group, were available at the venue for test drives and safety demonstrations.
“I would like to thank our partners and all those who participated in this awareness campaign, for making it a success. This event falls in line with our commitment to balanced social, environmental and sustainable growth, towards which Alfardan Properties has always made significant contributions,” Alfardan Properties COO Mohamed Sleiman said.
“Development of traffic awareness about responsible driving practices has always been top of our strategic priorities and we feel that there is a continuous need to address the importance of safe driving while on the road,” he noted.
“The road safety awareness drive proved to be a resounding success, as it emphasised the need to make concerted efforts to ensure the safety of the public, and make Qatar safe and accident-free. There was enthusiastic participation from youngsters, who gained valuable information and tips to keep themselves and their families safe on the road,” Sleiman added.
The Road Safety Awareness event supports the Qatar Government’s National Road Safety Strategy 2022, an ambitious long-term programme to develop a safe road transport system that protects all road users from death and serious injury.
This initiative sets a 10-year casualty reduction target to reduce the annual number of road crash fatalities to 130 by 2022, and minimise the number of serious injuries to 300 by 2022.
The event provided visitors with a lively mix of activities, video demonstrations and discussions, where each participant showcased a range of creative traffic safety solutions.
Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre highlighted the need for safety within school buses, the need to regulate mobile phone usage while on the road, safety of pedestrians and Land Rover/Range Rover safety.
QRCS showcased aspects relating to basic first aid training, CPR training and injury awareness and treatment, with the active participation of volunteers.
Meanwhile, personnel from Hamad International Training Centre rendered key demonstrations about vehicle child safety procedures and how to install approved child seats into cars.
The Safety and Security Department at Alfardan Properties focused on vehicle maintenance and safety awareness training, safe driving in AFG compound, and children’s safety. There were tests and quizzes for kids and adults, with exciting prizes for the winners.
Alfardan Properties also showcased an interactive photo booth, where visitors could click instant pictures, with props and backgrounds relating to road safety awareness.
