The Department of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) won the ‘2018 Legal Department of the Year (Large Team)’ award at third edition of the annual Qatar Business Law Forum and Awards ceremony, which was held here recently.
The award was received by Hilal Mohamed al-Khulaifi, director, (Department of Legal Affairs) at the MCI.
The MCI participated as a strategic partner in the event, which brought together several government entities and bodies as well as professional institutions involved in corporate law.
Al-Khulaifi outlined the mission and responsibilities of the Ministry in line with Amiri Decree Number (68) of 2018, which amended certain provisions of Amiri Decree Number (16) of 2014 in terms of defining and determining the responsibilities of ministries.
In line with the latest Amiri Decree, the MCI was tasked with overseeing commercial and industrial activities across Qatar, al-Khulaifi said, noting the importance of enhancing co-ordination, strengthening ties and bolstering joint efforts between the trade and industry sectors, which is of significant importance to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Touching on Qatar’s legislative environment in 2018, al-Khulaifi highlighted the development of the legislative framework to attract investments in Qatar and promote an investment-friendly environment.
The third Qatar Business Law Forum and Awards brought together numerous participants from the public and private sectors. The evaluation was conducted by a judging panel of ten experts from local and international law firms.
