The four local agricultural product markets in Al Mazrouaa, Al Khor, Al Dhakira, Al Wakrah and Al Shamal have succeeded in marketing 316 tonnes of fruit and vegetables, during the third week of the seventh season.
The four markets have also succeeded in marketing about 3.02 tonnes of fish, 382 cartons of eggs, 2,515 birds, 563kg of milk and 75kg of Qatari honey.
In addition, a total of 498 heads of sheep and goats were sold, 352 of which were slaughtered at the Al Mazrouaa yard.
The local agricultural product markets achieved record sales of Qatari vegetables and fruits in the previous season, reaching about 12,000 tonnes, at affordable prices, as well as sales of fish, birds, eggs, milk and livestock.
The markets aim at supporting the Qatari farmers by reducing marketing costs and encouraging them to increase the local production. They also aim at encouraging owners of small or neglected farms to transfer them into productive farms.
