Qatar is likely to experience another rainy spell as the Met department has said there are chances of scattered rain, which may turn thundery at times, in the country from today until Tuesday (November 13).
The weather office has advised people to be cautious in view of the forecast.
In a detailed report yesterday, the department said a “state of atmospheric instability” is expected to affect the country due to an “extension of a low-pressure” system during the above-mentioned period.
The skies will become cloudy at times and there is a chance of scattered rain today and tomorrow. Conditions will be favourable for moderate to heavy rain on Sunday and Monday, especially in the northern parts of the country.
“The Qatar Met department urges all to be cautious as thunderstorms are possible in some areas, accompanied by strong sudden winds – causing blowing dust and poor visibility at times,” the report states.
While the report says the rain will mostly be light to moderate in intensity today and tomorrow, another forecast issued by the department for today says thundershowers are also likely in some inshore and offshore areas along with strong winds and high seas.
The wind speed may go up to 25 knots inshore and 22 knots offshore, with the sea level rising to 7ft during thundery rain.
The minimum and maximum temperatures expected in the country today are 21C in Al Khor and 32C in Abu Samra, respectively, while Doha will see temperatures in the range of 25C and 30C.
The Met department has advised people to avoid marine activities and follow latest updates through the daily weather forecast bulletins and officials social media accounts.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s committee in charge of handling rainfall emergencies and risks discussed preparations for the rains expected next week. Committee head Safar Mubarak al-Shafi said all the preparations have been reviewed in co-operation with municipalities, the Mechanical Equipment Department, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) at the Ministry of Interior.
