Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is working round-the-clock to ensure the completion of many of its ongoing projects way ahead of the schedule, said president Issa bin Hilal al-Kuwari while hailing the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the Advisory Council on Tuesday.

Al-Kuwari said the Amir focused on some of the major achievements of Qatar in the post-blockade period. The speech reflects the reaffirmation of the country's leadership to go ahead with the various challenges on account and ensure that all development plans are implemented in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Kahraama chief said the corporation is sparing no efforts to ensure water and energy security for the country and all its development plans are going on as usual.

Five reservoir projects are currently being implemented in Umm Slal, Rawdat al-Rashid, Umm Berka, Abu Nakhla, and Al-Thumama and the first phase has been commissioned in the first half of this year, he said. Fifteen individual reservoirs are being built as part of the project, making it one of the largest of its kind in the world.

He said the corporation has already commissioned four out of the five power stations built for the successful hosting of the FIFA 2022 World Cup at a cost of more than QR800mn. More than 88% of the entire project has been completed.

Similarly, four out of the five stations for supplying electricity for the smooth operations have also been completed. Close to 90% of the project has been completed, he said. The entire project would cost nearly QR900mn.

The works on the country's 700mw solar power project is in full swing in Duhail. The first phase of 350mw would be connected to the national power network by 2020, said al-Kuwari while adding that highly advanced electrolytic cells technology will be used in the project.
