Al Jazeera Media Network celebrated its 22nd anniversary on Thursday under the theme 'We are becoming more resolved’.

Speaking on the occasion, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani, chairman of the network, highlighted issues such as the challenges faced by journalists in the region and around the world and the need for laws to protect them. Referring to the Jamal Khashoggi case, he said what the Saudi journalist suffered affected everyone.

HE Sheikh Hamad also referred to Al Jazeera journalist Mahmoud Hussein and said he was still detained in an Egyptian prison for the second year without trial. HE Sheikh Hamad also spoke about the siege imposed on Qatar and how the efforts to silence Al Jazeera failed.

Other senior officials of the network also spoke on the occasion.
