A delegation of FIG officials visited Aspire Dome yesterday to have a first-hand experience of the arrangements made by the Organising Committee for the 48th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Doha 2018 to be held at the Aspire Dome from October 25 to November 3.
The FIG officials were accompanied by Ali al-Hitmi, Executive Manager of the Organising Committee & President Qatar Gymnastics Federation.
 The delegation was impressed by the arrangements made including training halls, warm-up areas and the main competition hall. Earlier, on Sunday, the Organising Committee signed an agreement with TaiShan of China who have installed the equipment for the event.
The signing ceremony was held at the Torch hotel between al-Hitmi and Gang Cui, Chairman, TaiShan.  
Al-Hitmi said the organisers are happy with TaiShan’s co-operation (one of the accredited companies of International Gymnastics Federation (FIG)) and their installation works at the venue. TaiShan are known to provide high level services for top events with their gymnastics equipment.
“We appreciate the efforts made by TaiShan and extend our greetings to all the employees of the Chinese company for their efforts in completing the installation of the equipment according to the schedule specified and in accordance with FIG requirements,” said al-Hitmi. 
On the installation of the equipment, he explained, “An integrated team was provided to check the devices. With many gymnasts from China, Chinese, Taipei and Brazil already here to train and acclimatise, all training halls were adequately equipped.”
On his part, Gang Cui said, “We are proud to be associated with the world championships through the Qatar Gymnastics Federation who will bring this tournament to a new level. 
“We are sure the Organising Committee will present an excellent event to the world and we wish them all success.”
Over 600 athletes from about 78 countries have arrived in Doha to participate in the first world gymnastics championships to be held in the Middle East.
Competitions will be in 14 disciplines (eight for men and six for women) which will be held at the Aspire Dome.
The championships form the first qualification basis for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Medals to be 
unveiled soon
The Organising Committee will be unveiling the specially designed medals for Doha Worlds on the sidelines of a reception for the participating delegations. 
The medals have been designed in Arabic and include Islamic inscriptions reflecting the culture of Qatar.
