Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), in collaboration with Injaz Qatar, kick-started last week a Personal Finance Programme dubbed ‘How Money Works?’ at the Rawdat Rashid Secondary Boys School with 25 students participating in the session.
The ‘How Money works?’ programme is a five-hour training with interactive and engaging sessions, tailored specifically to educate secondary school and university freshmen students aged 15 to 19 on managing their finances.
The programme explores ways to earn money and manage it prudently by budgeting, saving, and investing. Once the sessions are completed, students will receive a certificate of completion programme.
More than 30 QIB employees have volunteered to share their expertise on the banking sector and transfer their knowledge to empower the youth of Qatar.
Injaz volunteers also shared their expertise with selected QIB employees at orientation sessions about the best methods to approach students.
During the first semester of this academic year, another six secondary schools are scheduled for the programme. The first session at Qatar University will be held in early November at the College of Business and Economics (Ladies Section).
The programme will reach 1,250 students over the next three years.
The exclusive agreement between QIB and Injaz Qatar was signed earlier by QIB Group CEO Bassel Gamal and Injaz Qatar CEO Emad al-Khaja.
Mashaal Abdulaziz al-Derham, assistant general manager, Head of Corporate Communications & Quality Assurance at QIB, said: “It gives us great pleasure to see this interactive engagement between Qatar’s youth and QIB staff and sharing their experiences.”
“The habits youth develop at this stage of their life will have a big effect on shaping their financial future. The programme aims to help the youth start making smart financial decision for the long run,” she added.
Al-Khaja said: “Education improves our community, boosts our youth’s potential, and is integral to Qatar’s economic success. Our collaboration with QIB through, ‘How Money Works?’ programme will give each participating student the opportunity to better understand how to manage their finance, which will eventually help in developing their business skills, and we hope this training will be a success and the start for future bigger success.”
