Two Qatari artists are showcasing their spray painting skills by transforming scrapped and rundown vehicles into fantastic works of art during the five-day Qatar Motor Show 2018, which concludes Sunday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

During the motor show, Gulf Times came across Qatari artist Mubarak al-Malki who was painting a wrecked sedan. Using spray paints of different colours, al-Malik said it would take at least one day to finish his work.
“We have to be very careful when doing our work because the paint fumes might inconvenience the visitors of the Qatar Motor Show,” al-Malki pointed out.

Al-Malki said QMS 2018 organisers had approached him and another artist, Thamer al-Dossari, to spray paint graffiti on four broken vehicles being displayed at the motor show – a stark contrast to the brand new and luxurious cars on display.
But the output of the artists is not only meant to provide variety to the motor show, according to a source knowledgeable with the Al Enna project of the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), who said the graffiti-covered vehicles will be part of the QTA initiative.
“These four vehicles at the motor show will be displayed along the Sealine area with the aim to raise awareness of safety, security, and protection of the environment. We utilised the motor show as a platform to help raise awareness, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Traffic Department,” he said.
The Al Enna project was launched last month during a press conference by representatives from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, MoI, Public Works Authority, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, Batabit (Qatar Centre for Motorcycles), Mawater, and QTA.
Al Enna, which means “camping grounds” in Arabic, is an initial step in a comprehensive development of the Sealine area, and aims to enhance the desert and camping experience through improved services and safety, protecting the environment at Sealine and Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid) areas, it was explained during the press conference.
“The motor show ticks two boxes in our objectives, which is to provide the artist a venue to showcase his creative skills, and to spread awareness of the Al Enna project and its objectives,” the source further explained.
The four vehicles are among the 10 to 20 art pieces that are expected to be displayed along the Sealine area. The pieces would also include some art installations “depending on the concept of the artists,” he added.
