Genesis’ fuel cell concept sports utility vehicle (SUV) was launched for the first time in the Middle East and Africa yesterday at the eighth edition of the Qatar Motor Show (QMS), taking place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre until October 21.
Dubbed as GV80, the concept car was unveiled on October 14 to more than 300 VIPs at St Regis Doha in an exclusive event, organised by Skyline Automotive, a Jaidah Automotive company and the official distribution partner of Hyundai Motor Company and its luxury brand Genesis in Qatar.
“It was a night which was all about luxury redefined the Korean way. We first introduced Genesis a little over a year ago at the previous Qatar Motor Show, and it was essential that we mark another major milestone ahead of this year’s edition,” said Mohamed Jaidah, Group Executive Director, Jaidah Group.
“As you may know, Genesis is a relatively young luxury brand in the automotive industry. Much like our beloved country Qatar – a country whose ambitions and accomplishments have earned it international recognition in a short period, Genesis has come a long way in a short space of time too by forging its own path,” he noted. “We at Jaidah Group are proud to take part in this amazing journey.”
The GV80 Concept is the brand’s first interpretation of a versatile luxury SUV, which strikes a perfect balance between elegance and versatility, Skyline Automotive said.
Equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology, the GV80 Concept Car utilises a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric technology to combine eco-performance and capability. It is carefully designed to represent athletic prowess and confidence, combined with elegance and versatility.
South Korean ambassador Chang-mo Kim told Gulf Times that Genesis Concept Car received a positive feedback from potential clients in Qatar.
“I am very proud that we have this Hyundai Genesis concept car. It is very popular in Korea and I hope this new model can be a big hit not only in Doha but in the Middle East region as well,” the envoy said. “The model which will come out next year will be quite unique from this one.”
Other Genesis icons that are showcased at this year’s QMS are the G70, G90, G80 and G80 Sport. By completing the sedan line-up with the arrival of the Genesis G70 to Qatar this summer, Skyline Automotive is bringing to life the vision of the Genesis brand to create products which combine elegance, practicality, and fierceness, meeting the needs of a motorist looking for a unique experience on the road.
“As a way of showing our appreciation and commitment to Qatar and our partnership with Skyline Automotive, we chose the Qatar Motor Show as the venue to display our GV80 Concept Vehicle to the public,” Genesis for Africa and Middle East Region general manager Altar Yilmaz said.
“With the GV80 Concept Car, Genesis further defines athletic elegance and design language in an innovative, high-tech SUV Concept,” Yilmaz added.
Jaidah Automotive managing director Bernhard Dolinek said they received “great feedback from our customers” since the Genesis reveal last year.
“The Genesis vision is going beyond just providing a new luxury mode of transportation. We are offering a new kind of ownership experience where everything is centred around our customers,” he noted.
