To mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Commercial Bank has held an awareness day in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) by launching a range of awareness-raising activities for its employees and members of the public.
Commercial Bank offered its guests the opportunity to get their vital signs checked by qualified nurses and receive a general consultation from a medical doctor. They were also invited to hear inspirational talks from a breast cancer survivor and a blood cancer survivor, as well as attend a workshop run by Dr Hadi Abu Rasheed, head of Professional Development and Scientific Research Department at QCS.
Activities that focused on fitness and lifestyle were also offered. As studies have shown that women who exercise more are less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, an office workout was organised at Commercial Bank’s own on-site gym for employees, CB House of Fitness, followed by a presentation on why ‘Every Movement Counts’.
According to the National Centre for Cancer Care & Research, in Qatar the incidence of breast cancer is 40% higher than that of other types of cancer. This makes it one of the most common cancers among women in Qatar, the bank has said in a statement.
Hussein Ali al-Abdulla, chief marketing officer at Commercial Bank, said: “Commercial Bank was glad to play its part in helping raise awareness of breast cancer in Qatar. Prevention and early detection are the most powerful ways to beat breast cancer, which is why the activities we organised focused on overall health.
“At Commercial Bank, our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to investing in their well-being through initiatives like Breast Cancer Awareness Month and through employee services like our new on-site gym CB House of Fitness. We like to involve employees’ friends and families and members of the public in these initiatives as much as we can.”
Dr Abu Rasheed added, “This event comes within our Life is Pink campaign, which Qatar Cancer Society launched during the month of October to raise awareness  about  breast cancer, emphasise the importance of periodic examination for early detection, and promote a healthy lifestyle to prevent it.
“Life is Pink targets all categories of Qatari society through co-operation with various state institutions to raise awareness of this disease and ways to prevent it. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Commercial Bank for its support of QCS’s campaigns and initiatives, and invite all community members to participate in the campaign, which continues throughout the month.”
