Tech-development startups that are part of Qatar Science & Technology Park’s (QSTP) growing community have been honoured for the impact they are making on the information technology sector in Qatar.

At the recent Qatar IT Business Awards, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) and Qatar Development Bank (QDB), three QSTP incubatees, a QSTP tenant, a startup that benefited from the QSTP-administered Mena Dojo programme, and a recipient of the QSTP Product Development Fund received awards for their tech-development businesses that service various sectors.
The ceremony is one of the most prestigious awards for the technology sector in Qatar, honouring IT businesses and innovators who are transforming the IT landscape in Qatar. Leading the awards were three startups at QSTP, part of Qatar Foundation Research, Development, and Innovation, that are providing innovative healthcare solutions in Qatar.
The team behind QSTP incubatee ‘Meddy’, which was recognised as ‘ICT Exporter of the Year’, has its sights set on becoming one of the leading medical tech startups in the region.
Meddy CEO Haris Aghadi said: “This year, we’ve focused on expanding our product outside of Qatar to realise our vision of becoming the primary source of healthcare information in the region. It’s a great honour for us to be recognised by the MoTC through this award.”
QSTP accelerates the commercialisation of technology-based innovations by incubating and mentoring local startups to bring their products to market and support their global growth.
The ‘Smart Healthcare Solution of the Year’ award went to MediHealth Solutions, a startup that offers a B2C service, ‘At home Doc’ – a comprehensive medical platform that utilises bespoke healthcare technologies to provide a patient-centric and evidence-based medical practice.
The startup participated in Mena Dojo, a coveted Series A accelerator programme for post-seed startups in the region held by QSTP, in partnership with 500 Startups, a global venture capital seed fund.
MediHealth Solutions founder Hesham el-Feshawy said: “Our dream is to become a regional digital healthcare provider. We currently have a community of just over 12,000 people who are seen by our doctors, and we will continue to do our best to keep our community growing by offering them quality healthcare that is both accessible and affordable.”
Droobi Health, a mobile App that empowers patients to take control of their diabetes by using behavioural science to encourage people to change their habits and prevent chronic illness, won the ‘Tech Startup of the Year’ award. It is a recipient of the QSTP Product Development Fund that funds SMEs and startups involved in developing tech products and services relevant to Qatar.
Droobi Health co-founder and CEO Majed Lababidi said, “Patients in Qatar and the region deserve the best mobile health solutions, and we are making that happen with the first bilingual digital therapeutic solutions for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes.”
In addition to the array of robust healthcare solutions being awarded, QSTP incubatee ‘Maktapp’ received the ‘Cloud Service Provider of the Year’ award for the second consecutive year, for its cloud-based application that enables businesses to schedule tasks and manage time and deadlines effectively.
Another QSTP incubatee, ‘Airlift’ – dedicated to employing intelligent control software and hardware technologies in autonomous aircrafts to disrupt the on-demand logistics market – secured the ‘Smart Logistic Solution of the Year’ title.
Airlift CEO Ahmed Mohamedali said, “It’s a great honour and motivational boost for our team to be selected for the award by the MoTC. We were up against tough competition, and receiving this award reaffirms Airlift’s innovation and originality and demonstrates the industry’s confidence in our startup.”
Also sharing the spotlight was QSTP’s long-standing tenant ‘Meeza’, which was awarded ‘Service Provider of the Year’. The company provides end-to-end IT services and solutions and is becoming increasingly recognised as a leading systems integrator.
Meeza also offers disaster recovery and business continuity services, and has established the first commercial Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Qatar to help its clients mitigate digital and cyber security threats.
Meeza CEO engineer Ahmad al-Kuwari said, “It’s an honour and a great achievement for Meeza to receive the ‘Service Provider of the Year’ award. This recognition is a testament to the company's efforts and hard work in delivering on its commitment to offer service excellence and best practices in managed IT services to all its customers.
“Meeza is committed to operational excellence and commercial success, and receiving this award motivates us to continue our efforts and develop our services in line with the market requirements.”
