Qatar Racing Limited-owned Roaring Lion won his third consecutive Group 1 when he emerged victorious in the QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes in Leopardstown, Ireland, on Saturday.
Cantering on the outside at the back of the field under Oisin Murphy, he accelerated at the start of the home straight.
After a long acceleration, the John Gosden-trained colt managed to take the advantage over Saxon Warrior and get the better of him again after the Eclipse, at the very end with a final turn of foot.
The latter finished second, a neck from Roaring Lion. Aidan O’Brien placed second, third and fourth in this Group 1. Deauville came third more than two lengths behind and Athena was fourth.
“It was the best thing I’ve seen at a racecourse,” said Qatar Racing Limited racing manager David Redvers.
“It was an unbelievable ride and a fantastic performance and it is just an absolute honour to be involved with such a horse. I’m so thrilled for Sheikh Fahad and all the team. It means a lot. We thrive to find a horse that can do this. It has taken us years to find Sheikh Fahad one. We have had some great successes, but not one like this.”
