Two leading Qatari and German business organisations have signed an agreement to form a ‘Joint Task Force for Trade and Investment’ in the presence of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel at a forum held in Berlin on Friday.
The task force, composed of 10 members, five each from the Qatari Businessmen Association and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, was formed after the opening session of the Qatar-Germany Business and Investment Forum held at the Maritim Hotel.
On the Qatari side, the agreement was signed by QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, while Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce CEO Martin Wansleben represented Germany.

After delivering their opening speeches, His Highness the Amir and Merkel met on the sidelines of the forum to discuss various issues, particularly measures to further strengthen bilateral and economic relations, as well as topics in the cultural and political fields.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, particularly the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Syria, Libya, and Palestine.
The Amir and the Chancellor expressed “regret that some countries have cut their aid to the UNRWA, which would negatively affect millions of refugees, while stressing their countries' continued support for humanitarian issues.”
On Syria, the two leaders warned of a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the event of renewed attacks on Idlib. They also stressed the importance of resolving the Gulf crisis through dialogue for the stability of the region and the adoption of political ways to resolve all differences.
His Highness the Amir also met with German President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the presidential residence Bellevue Palace in Berlin to review strategic bilateral relations and ways to enhance them “in all fields.”
Steinmeier thanked the Amir for staging the forum in Berlin, and expressed hope that the event “can deepen investment ties and increase trade volume in line with the aspirations of the two peoples.”
His Highness the Amir and Steinmeier exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, and stressed in that regard on the importance of having stability in the region.
