The second US-Qatar Counter-terrorism Dialogue took place in Doha on Wednesday. It was led by chairman of Qatar's National Counter-terrorism Committee Abdulaziz Abdullah al-Ansari and principal deputy co-ordinator for counter-terrorism at the US Department of State Alina Romanowski.
The delegations of the two countries comprised of specialists who took part in work sessions to review progress in the counter-terrorism field.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by special envoy of the minister of foreign affairs of Qatar for Counter-terrorism and Mediation of Conflict Resolution, Dr Mutlaq bin Majed al-Qahtani.

The American side was led by Alina Romanowski at the talks.

The two sides held five work sessions to review the counter-terrorism efforts since they signed a memorandum of understanding in that field on July 11, 2017. They also reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the plan laid out for 2018.
They agreed on the steps they could take to support the counter-terrorism efforts and other measures that could be implemented to combat the financing of terrorism. They discussed what expertise the American side could share with Qatar in the field of hosting the World Cup 2022.
The American side praised the measures taken by Qatar in co-operation with the international community in combating terrorism and its finance.
The Qatari side, meanwhile, thanked the US for its support of Qatar as a strategic ally in the fight against terrorism and its finance.
The two sides agreed in the conclusion of the dialogue on the importance of continuing their co-operation to make further progress in the fight against terrorism and its finance, to limit its damaging impact.
Romanowski said that ties between the US and Qatar in the field of counter-terrorism has made big progress since the previous dialogue which was held in Washington in November 2017.
“The two sides continue co-operation in the fight to beat ISIS by using Al Udeid air base,” she said, adding that the US was grateful for that.
She expressed her delight that the two sides concluded work on every aspect of the MoU they signed, but added that there remains a lot of work to be done between the two sides to enhance their fight against terrorism.
For his part, al-Ansari said that the second dialogue was held as the two sides continue co-operation in fighting terrorism and its financing by building on the work done through the MoU.
“The dialogue focuses on the success achieved over the past year in that field,” he said, adding that the two sides agreed to enhance bilateral co-operation and continue working in accordance with international standards.
He extended thanks to the American side for their continuous support and their enhancement of strategic bilateral ties, stressing the importance of the MoU and the mechanism formed by it to co-operate in the fight against terrorism and its finance.
