Applications are now open for Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar’s (WCM-Q) 2019 Biomedical Research Training Programme for Nationals.

Applications can be submitted online until November 4, 2018. The programme is designed to give aspiring Qatari college graduates the opportunity to gain key research skills and experience to help them kick-start successful careers in biomedical research.

The six-month training programme is scheduled to run from January 2019 to July 2019. Participating graduates will work alongside WCM-Q’s world-leading research scientists in the college’s state-of-the-art laboratories on a programme that has been carefully designed to equip them with a wide variety of research skills, experiences and competencies, providing a firm foundation upon which they can build careers in research.

Interns will gain practical laboratory skills, research administration skills, knowledge about how to conduct clinical research projects, and the chance to contribute to ongoing scientific studies being carried out at WCM-Q.

Although the programme is aimed at recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career as a bench or clinical researcher, or a research administrator, applications from nationals are welcomed irrespective of their discipline. The training programme is a full-time, six-month employment commitment and trainees receive a graduation certificate upon completion. All participating interns are paid a stipend as part of a comprehensive compensation package.

The highly successful programme is fully funded by WCM-Q, and organised in partnership with the Qatar Research Leadership Programme at Qatar Foundation. To date, the programme has completed eight annual cycles and has provided training to 36 interns.

The programme, which was launched in 2011, was inspired by Qatar National Vision 2030 and the goal of creating a knowledge-based economy by helping build the national human capacity and training Qataris for a post-hydrocarbon future.
