The Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that they will freeze assets of the US ‘justice and interior’ secretaries in Turkey.

‘We will freeze assets, if there are any, of the US justice and interior secretaries in Turkey,’ he said, speaking at ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's Women Branch congress in Ankara broadcasted by Anadolu.

‘Especially the latest step by America regarding pastor Brunson issue in Izmir, is an ill-fitted step for a strategic partner,’ he added.

The treasury secretary Berat Albayrak had last week had underestimated US sanctions against two Turkish ministers, stressing that their impact will be limited to Turkey and its economy, pointing out that Turkey attaches importance to resolving the differences with the United States through diplomacy and constructive efforts in line with the relations of the two countries, which are characterized by strong alliance and strong past.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also had expressed its ‘strong protest’ against the decision of the United States to impose sanctions on the two Turkish ministers. It said in a statement that ‘ Turkey will respond in kind without delay on this hostile American position, which does not serve any goal,’ calling on the US administration to Undo this ‘wrong decision’.
