Qatar stressed that it will spare no effort in the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction at the regional and global levels, stressing that response to threats and disasters are among the most important means of preserving national achievements and capabilities.

This came in the remarks made by HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi at the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, in which he referred to the importance that Qatar attaches to the issues of sustainable development as one of the pillars of the country's national vision 2030.
He also praised the support of Qatar for the "Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction" adopted in the city of Sendai (Japan) for the period 2015-2030 and its seven recognised objectives.
He pointed out that Qatar attaches great importance to strengthening partnership with specialised agencies in the field of development and national capacity-building, including the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR).
He pointed out that the worsening environmental degradation and natural disasters are increasing the movements of refugees and forced migration around the world, which is of great concern to the international community, adding that this requires the strengthening of international co-operation and integration among the political, humanitarian and development efforts, given their direct impact on developmental gains.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi said that achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030 requires a balanced effort between the three social, economic and environmental development sectors, provided that the national-level plans include the necessary programmes and activities based on a supportive economic infrastructure and legislation.
He added that those programmes must take into consideration the social aspect and the importance of preserving the environment within its strategies.
In his speech, the minister of state reviewed legislation and laws enacted by Qatar in this context and the national institutional arrangements established such as the Standing Committee for Emergency, which takes into account the urban and civil expansion and all the standards of safety and security at global levels, as well as qualifying the human cadres to work in the field of rescue and relief.
In concluding his remarks, HE al-Muraikhi expressed his confidence that the international community will succeed in its disaster risk-reduction efforts.
