College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) recognised the student athletes and their coaches, and presented them with awards for their excellence in sport and wellness. Awards were presented to recognise the most outstanding teams and individuals who excelled in supporting the college spirit through commitment to sport and wellness.
The ‘Women’s Team of the Year’ trophy was presented to the ladies team, who competed in the annual powerlifting competition. This was the first year the powerlifting competition was open to women, as previously it was only a competition for male students. The team of women were chosen for their dedication to training for a new event, and for their sportspersonship during the competition. CNA-Q is the only post-secondary institution in Qatar that offers female powerlifting and strong student team events.
Other honours were presented for Athlete of the Year, Leadership and Spirit Award winners. “Not only is the college an excellent choice for post-secondary technical and applied learning, it is also a place where students have the opportunity for personal growth and development outside of the classroom and their academic studies,” recreation manager Tony Martin said. “Dedicated faculty members coach and mentor student athletes along the way, while encouraging them to be their best in whatever they do. We strongly believe that ex-curricular sports involvement and wellness activities contribute greatly to the well-being of students,” the official added.
The CNA-Q men’s teams won the national championships for basketball and cricket. This year’s win for the male cricket team makes them champions for the fifth consecutive year.
