The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs’ online network Islamweb enters its 20th year and during the period the website has accomplished several achievements to establish itself as one of the major Islamic online portals.
To mark the occasion, the ministry launched yesterday a new edition of the website, which uses state-of-the-art technology and caters to interests and ambitions of visitors all over the world, whether Muslims looking for religious knowledge or non-Muslims interested in learning about Islam, in addition to the public who look for daily fatwa as well as medical, psychological and social consultations.
The network publishes its scientific knowledge and preaching materials and services in six languages - Arabic, English, French, Spanish, German and Indonesian through 8mn pages and 2bn page views.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Malallah al-Jaber, director of religious guidance department at the ministry, said that the website has managed a lot of successes throughout its 20 years of operation, adding that the ministry was keen during that time to develop its interface and content so as to maintain its global status as one of the major Islamic portals.
The new interface of the online network is consistent with the nature of its users in terms of quality and ease of use, taking into account the technical format of colours used, fonts and menus as well as navigation speed through the different browsers and the ability to copy, download and print the material of the website.
On the issue of securing the network against hacking, Jassim al-Ali, head of the network, said that the new design took into account these security challenges so that it would be able to ward off any breaches.
Al-Ali added that the new edition of Islamweb implemented global design standards in order to ensure appropriate performance, and adopted the most popular languages, databases and modern technologies in general, in addition to examining the portal to ensure its safety and protection from hacking.
He said the intended additions comply with the developments happening in the world, the needs of the visitors and with the great technical developments seen in the world.
The ministry is about to supplement the website with nearly 10 new websites and unique applications for smartphones in the upcoming months to strengthen the cultural and preach role of the website.
Some of the important sections of the website include the Islamic e-library, jurisprudence, children section and a news service on the latest developments around the world. In addition, the website covers sections on Haj and Umrah, Ramadan and a section to deal with suspicions against Islam and opens up room for dialogue.
The e-library is the largest Islamic library on the internet and contains the most important references and Islamic books in various religious sciences, whether heritage or contemporary books, which are important resources for specialised and non-specialised
researchers.
The library also covers Islamic sciences with its various branches, starting with literatures of Islamic jurisprudence, as well as the principles of jurisprudence, the interpretation of Qur’an, the understanding of Hadith, biographies, doctrine, history and other topics, all in nearly 5mn pages.
Currently, the consultation section of website contains more than 180,000 medical, psychological, social and other consultations, whereas the fatwa section registered more than 230,000 different fatwas, and 100,000 various cultural articles.
In addition, there are 3bn audio files including Qur’an, lessons, explanations, religious texts, educational materials, Friday sermons, audio books, and other useful religious and cultural audio files. (QNA)
