Qatar’s Ministry of Finance participated in the 107th Meeting of the GCC Financial and Economic Committee held in Kuwait. The meeting was attended by HE the Minister of Finance Ali Sherif al-Emadi. Ministers of finance from other GCC countries also participated in the event. During the sessions, the committee agreed on new measures including the amendment of the minimum level of the 
specific duties on tobacco and its derivatives in the GCC. Other measures included unifying customs tariff and raising customs duties on imports of steel reinforcement and iron rolls from 5% to 10% for one year. The meeting also saw the appointment of the GCC Financial and Economic Committee as the authority to consider the appeals of the Industrial Co-operation Committee until the 
establishment of the Judicial Authority. Among other topics discussed were the amendments proposed by the Industrial Co-operation Committee on the exemption of industrial inputs, the protection of the local agent, and the proposal to expand the range of goods covered by selective taxation. The sessions concluded with the Committee agreeing on the dates for the 2019 edition.
