*NHRC demands his safe return

Qatar has expressed its strong condemnation of the arrest of Qatari citizen Mohsen Saleh Saadoun al-Qurabi by the Saudi authorities.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the arrest and detention of Qatari citizen al-Qurabi by the Saudi authorities as he was returning from Yemen on April 21, where he visited his family and without committing any wrongdoing and without any charge, is a flagrant violation of international laws.
The State of Qatar strongly condemns the arrest of one of its citizens by Saudi Arabia in violation of international human rights charter, the note said.
Al-Qurabi, 63, suffers from chronic health problems that require continuous healthcare.
The Ministry's statement called for the speedy release of al-Qurabi , and held the authorities concerned in Saudi Arabia responsible for maintaining his safety and health as well as to provide him with the necessary healthcare and to ensure all his legal rights to defend himself on allegations that might be attributed to him and to enable him to contact his family, and the competent authorities in Qatar to communicate with him to check on his health.
The statement called for not resorting to arbitrary measures against people because of political differences.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) also condemned the arrest of Qatari citizen al-Qurabi by the Saudi forces at a border port, between Yemen and the Sultanate of Oman on April 21.
In a statement, NHRC said: "We condemn in the strongest terms the arbitrary detention of the Qatari citizen and the denial of contact with his family or his lawyer by the Saudi authorities, and the inability of his family to determine the place of his detention or the charge against him, in addition to being at risk of torture and other forms of ill-treatment, in violation of international human rights conventions."
The NHRC called on all international human rights bodies, organisations and the Panel on Arbitrary Detention to intervene quickly to release him, demanding the Saudi authorities to disclose the legal status of al-Qurabi, and the place of his detention as soon as possible, as well as allowing him to communicate with his family and his lawyers expeditiously, and to obtain the medical care he may require and to immediately release him.
The NHRC held the Saudi authorities fully responsible for his security and safety in the event of torture or other ill-treatment.
