More than 500 orphans have benefited from services complex built by Qatar Charity (QC) in Pakistan, the organisation has said.

QC built Darl Al-Salam Services Complex two years ago in the city of Attock, Punjab, to provide housing, education and training services to orphans.

Currently, the complex has more than 500 beneficiaries and includes an orphanage and a vocational training centre.

The main objective of this project is to train orphans in order to enhance their skills and build their capabilities required by the labour market, so that they can be able to serve their families and improve their standard of living in the future, QC has said in a statement.

The orphanage is a multi-storey building, each of which includes living rooms, bathrooms, toilets, a computer room, a dining hall, a kitchen and a storeroom.

The complex is a home for orphans belonging to earthquake- and flood-affected areas of the country and provides religious and educational training to them in order to enable them to take a leading role in society.

The vocational training centre provides technical training to orphans and enhances their skills, which will help them increase their family income in the future.

The centre also provides appropriate high-quality professional and educational programmes to orphans, in co-ordination with employers and government agencies, to meet the needs of the local market. It also gives them training related to the ethics and conduct of different professions.

The centre is a single-storey building, which covers an area of 3,677sqft and includes a mechanical laboratory, a welding laboratory, a study hall, a reception hall, a bathroom, two toilets and an ablution area.

The vocational training centre has helped reduce economic and living problems, increase income and improve the living standards of communities, QC points out.

The centre presents certificates to students qualified to enter the labour market, in the fields of computer, sewing, carpentry, plumbing and electricity. Special courses are also separately organised for females in the field of sewing. Thousands of students have graduated till date, the statement adds.
