HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met in Doha yesterday with a delegation of the Qatari-European Friendship Group led by Ramona Manescu, head of the group.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with relations and prospects for co-operation between Qatar and the European Union and means to strengthen them as well as co-ordination of positions towards regional and international issues.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed the delegation on developments of the Gulf crisis, Qatar’s efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, and reviewed ways to bolster the co-operation between Qatar and the European Union to enhance security in the region and the world.
He also briefed the European delegation on the measures taken by Qatar to improve the conditions of employment with the International Labor Organisation (ILO) testimony.
The Qatari-European Friendship Group was launched at the European Parliament in October 2012. It includes European members from different parties interested in the role of Qatar and its foreign, developmental, educational and other policies.
The main objective of the Group is to strengthen relations between the European Parliament, in particular, the European Union in general and Qatar in various fields, to defend mutual interests and promote bilateral co-operation by organising meetings and mutual visits between the two sides. (QNA)
