The QFA-Chelsea Foundation coaching clinic recently concluded at Aspire’s pitches 3 and 4, following the last and final club session which was organised for the young players and local coaches.
The coaching clinic was organised by the Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) Football Development Department in collaboration with Chelsea Foundation and Yokohama Tyres, the principal club partner.
The coaching clinic wrapped up with a closing ceremony in which the players and coaches received certificates of participation.
The QFA Football Development Department presented coaches from Chelsea Foundation, representatives from Yokohama Tyres Middle East and Africa, representatives from Ali Bin Khalifa Al Hitmi & Co., distributors of Yokohama Tyres, appreciation shields for collaborating with the QFA to organise the coaching clinic.
The closing ceremony was attended by Mansoor al-Ansari, General Secretary of the QFA; Mohamed al-Hashmi, Manager and General Supervisor of the QFA-Chelsea Foundation Coaching Clinic from the Football Development Department at QFA; Nawwaf Khalil, QFA-Chelsea Coaching Clinic Operations Manager from the Football Development Department at QFA; Zak Wooster, Head Coach at Chelsea Foundation; Yusuke Tanaka, Manager, Yokohama Tyres Middle East and Africa; Karunakar Menon, Divisional Manager at Ali Bin Khalifa Al Hitmi & Co., distributors of Yokohama Tyres; and Nilangshu Dey President of the Indian Sports Centre.
Held from April 7-11, Chelsea foundation coaches delivered coaching on the opening day to children from more than 15 expatriate schools followed by intensive coaching clinics to promising young players representing clubs under QFA and coaching workshops to expat coaches who are sports teachers from various schools around Qatar, as well as coaching workshops to coaches from Qatari clubs.
While the coaching workshops for expatriate coaches were held on the opening day at the Mesaimeer Sports Club, coaching workshops for the QFA’s Professional Coaches were held from 8 April at Al Duhail Sports Club and Mesaimeer Sports Club and continued until 11 April, and the clubs’ sessions for the players took place at Aspire’s pitches 3 and 4 starting from 8 April and continued until 11 April.
Zak Wooster, Head Coach at Chelsea Foundation commented: “It’s been great to see the players showing their passion and love for football and demonstrating the skills and techniques that have been taught and developed. The level is definitely on the rise and camps like this will hopefully help that even more. Coaching clinics give the children an opportunity to train in a learning environment which mimics the Chelsea way and give players an opportunity to be taught various aspects of the game they may have not experienced before. The clinics will leave a legacy with these players which will hopefully promote a long term development model.”
Fahad Thani al-Zarraa, Director of the Football Development Department at QFA commented: “I would like to thank everyone who made this coaching clinic possible. Organised for the second consecutive time, the coaching clinic proved to be successful and this success is due to the continuous support received from the QFA under the chairmanship of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani. I would also like to thank Aspire Academy for hosting the second edition of this coaching clinic and providing unlimited logistical support for the clinic.”
He added: “The QFA Football Development Department has set a plan that focuses on the implementation of programs and events during the current football season which will be targeted at different segments, specifically the age groups, to further develop football in Qatar. This was evident in the joint coaching clinic which allowed us to look into new training styles and methods by learning from Chelsea Foundation’s experienced coaches. The coaching clinic has greatly benefited our young players and coaches and we have seen how it reflected positively on everyone who took part in it.”
The week-long coaching clinic saw participation of more than 120 players between the ages of 10 and 14. The clinic was delivered by Wooster, four coaches from Chelsea Foundation, and more than 74 coaches from Qatar.
