Four new contracts, totalling QR1.5bn, were signed on Tuesday to develop infrastructure of land plots under the Citizens Residential Projects in Al Wukair South in Al Wakrah Municipality.

"The latest allotment is in excess of the QR10bn budget approved earlier, and the additional QR1.5bn for Al Wukair South was made on the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani," said Ashghal president and senior engineer Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi.

The total allotment of QR11.5bn is the biggest ever dedicated for developing infrastructure in Citizens Residential Projects, he explained.

The new infrastructural development works to be taken up in Al Wukair South would serve approximately 3,508 land plots.

Al-Muhannadi said by the end of 2024, the number of citizens’ land plots to be served with newly developed infrastructure would be at least three times the number of plots served with infrastructure in 2013.

The top Ashghal official also informed the commencement of new projects to develop the infrastructure of 15,000 plots in existing areas, across Qatar this year.

Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department engineer Mooza al-Suwaidi presented the authority's plan for the implementation of infrastructure development projects.

The projects due to be completed during 2018 include those serving 5,644 land plots in existing areas, 837 land plots in citizens’ sub-divisions, besides grading works for nearly 1,800 other plots.

"These projects will provide a total of 351km of drainage networks, 225km of road works and 239 cycle and pedestrian paths," he said.

The infrastructure projects currently being implemented in different areas are also reviewed, including those in Bani Hajer, Rawdat Egdaim, Izghawa, Al Froosh, Al Kharaitiyat, North of Al Nasseriya, the Industrial Area, Muaither West, and Al Shamal town, said al-Suweidi.

Most of these projects are planned to be completed between the last quarter of this year and third quarter of next year, and expected to serve a total of 10,656 land plots.

The projects to be started this year include those serving approximately 15,021 land plots in existing areas and 3,508 land plot in citizens’ sub-divisions in Al Wukair South. All these projects together will provide a total of 1,507km of drainage networks, 695km of road works and 1,830km of cycle and pedestrian paths.

At the meeting, Ashghal president also signed the new contracts with the representatives of the companies that will execute the projects in Al Wukair South.

One of them, a joint venture between two local companies, was awarded works amounting to QR512mn. The Package 1 will serve approximately 820 land plots.

The other three contracts included Package 2, 3 and 4 for the same project were awarded to another firm at QR947mn. The three packages together will serve 2,688 land plots.

The first project, scheduled for start later this month is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2020. It will provide an integrated infrastructure for Al Wukair South as it includes the construction of 166km of sewage networks, and 310km of storm water and ground water networks.

The project will also provide a total of 172km of internal and external roads, and 27 intersections to connect Al Wukair South with the surrounding main roads. This is in addition to providing safe access to all future residential and commercial establishments in this area. Works also include providing parking bays, lighting poles and directional signage to enhance traffic safety in the area.

The meeting was also attended by Ashghal's Infrastructure Affairs director senior engineer Mohamed Masoud al-Marri, Roads Projects Department manager and senior engineer Saoud Ali al-Tamimi.
