Governor of the Red Sea State in eastern Sudan, Ali Ahmed Hamid, has said Sudan-Qatar economic partnerships have entered the stage of implementation, and praised the great role played by Qatar in promoting economic stability in his country.

Hamid said negotiations for economic partnerships with Qatar took around a year. He referred to the construction of the new Sawakin port to be a model to strengthen relations between the two countries.
He noted that the new port would the the most modern on the Red Sea coast in terms of operational equipment at an estimated cost of more than $4bn.
The construction of the first phase costing $500mn began with the the signing of the agreement last week. It would be completed in 30 months.
He stressed that a maritime transport line will be inaugurated between Hamad Port in Qatar and Sawakin Port and all the Sudanese ports on the Red Sea.
Hamid pointed out that all preparations for receiving Qatari ships will be completed by the beginning of next April.
The Sudanese official said that major economic transformations will be made to serve the countries of the region by taking advantage of the huge developments that will be achieved by Qatari investments in transforming the Red Sea region into a global economic outlet that provides promising opportunities for all ships transiting the Red Sea.
