More than 200 Qatar residents will participate in the first Samyang Korean Fire Noodle Challenge, scheduled to start on Thursday at Aspire Park, it is learnt.
The three-day event, organised by Vision Food Trading, aims to promote Korean products in Qatar.
“This Samyang fire noodle challenge will be the first time ever in the Middle East. South Korean embassy officials will also be attending,” Vision general manager Jewan Park told Gulf Times.
He said the competition will give the public a chance to try “one hit Korean food item,” which is a way of enticing them to try other products as well. Attendees will also have the opportunity to taste Korean noodles, healthy vinegar and other juices at the event, according to Park.
“In this challenge, we want more people to try the item. This is not only for Koreans but also for Qataris and various nationalities like Indians, Filipinos, Indonesians, Arabs and many more,” he said.
Spicy noodle challenge has become a popular group game in many countries, which is being posted on social media. Park also cited the growing demand for Korean food and other products in the country.
“Our products are now available in 60 hypermarket branches such as LuLu, Al Meera, Spinney’s, and Monoprix, among others,” said Park, who came to Qatar in 1998 and studied at Qatar University.
“If there is no demand you are out next week. If you put products in major supermarkets and hypermarkets and not selling for one month you can never go back. They will block you immediately,” he stressed.
Park noted that sales of Korean products have been steadily increasing, especially Korean noodles.
Besides Korean products, he said, they also plan to sell more Japanese items, as well as Chinese products, in Qatar in the future.
