Sudanese Minister of Tourism, Antiquities and Wildlife Mohammed Abu Zaid Mustafa has praised the role of Qatar in developing tourism in his country through continuous support and rehabilitation of monuments in the North and Naher Al Neil states, northern Sudan.
In an interview with the Sudanese Radio on Friday, the minister said that Qatar has been working since 2013 in the restoration of monuments in Sudan and has achieved great successes in this area. “The programme to develop the antiquities will continue until 2020.”
The Sudanese minister said that he will visit Qatar soon to take advantage of the Qatari experiences in the field of tourism and seek to expand the Qatari support to all the states of Sudan.
He stressed that the evaluations carried out for Qatari projects in Sudan in the fields of tourism showed that they opened wide horizons for Sudan in the field of archaeological tourism, and the areas where the missions of Qatar are the most attractive tourist destinations, especially for tourists coming from European and Asian countries.
He noted that the facilities established by Qatar for foreign missions in Sudan according to the latest international standards have provided infrastructure that can be used in the future in the development of archeology tourism, adding that Qatar has enabled Sudan to benefit economically from the tourism of archeology and expansion and development of promising future plans .
“We are planning to take advantage of the Qatari expertise to promote Sudanese tourism in general, especially after President Omar al-Bashir's decision to facilitate entry visas for foreign tourists and not restrict their movement," he said, noting that co-operation between Qatar and Sudan is developing with high co-ordination.
