The seventh Halal Qatar Festival concluded at Katara - the Cultural Village yesterday amid a large turnout of visitors as well as livestock owners, the organisers said.
Throughout the festival, Katara shed light on the local culture and sought to instruct the younger generation on life in the past and how the ancestors used to make their living. Besides, Katara was also keen to display the best breeds of sheep and goat.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager, Katara, said: “We are proud of the way the festival has developed over the years, with new useful additions being made every year. This year’s edition saw a larger number of shops displaying different products, in addition to educational workshops and play zones and games allocated for children.”
He described the festival as a good opportunity for visitors to experience the country’s heritage and get to know about the history of the culture that defines the Gulf identity.
Besides auctions, the annual event hosts unique competitions to raise public awareness on the traditional and best practices in livestock breeding. The nine-day festival also includes entertainment shows and fun-filled activities for families and children.
Awards are given to the winners of the competitions.
