Singapore will name an orchid in its famous botanical garden after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her upcoming visit to the country.
Hasina will start a four-day official visit to Singapore from March 11 at the invitation of her counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said yesterday.
“Singapore would name an orchid in its botanical garden, a world heritage site, after the Bangladesh prime minister in her honour,” said Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali.
Ali said that six deals will be signed during her visit, adding that the “visit would strengthen the bilateral relations and expand the scope of co-operation”, bdnews24.com reported.
Ali said the visit was “politically important” as Singapore is the chair of the Southeast Asian countries grouping Asean.
Hasina will also request Singapore to support Bangladesh on the Rohingya refugee issue, Ali said.
