*Emir patronises Education Excellence Day ceremony

His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani patronised the 11th edition of the Education Excellence Day ceremony which took place at Doha Sheraton Hotel on Sunday morning.

The ceremony was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and ministers, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar, senior education officials, parents of the outstanding students and guests.

Speaking on the occasion, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi underlined that His Highness the Emir's patronage of the ceremony and honouring of the winners of the Education Excellence Day award carries many meanings and indications that reflect His Highness's great attention to the education system and its outputs, and to the preparation of young cadres equipped with knowledge and skills and capable of meeting the requirements of the beloved homeland and its aspirations for more progress and prosperity.

HE the Education Minister said that the award winners and their predecessors represent an added value to the national capacities in various fields, stressing that they must shoulder the responsibility for participating in implementing the directives of His Highness the Emir, meeting the requirements for opening the economy to initiatives and investment, paying attention to educational achievement in various disciplines, self-reliance and fighting dependency.

On behalf of the honoured, excellence award winner in the PhD category, Dr Ali Saleh al-Menhali, expressed gratitude and appreciation to the wise leadership for the opportunities, academic options and human potentials, and for the establishment of a school environment that is incubating and supportive of scientific excellence.

Al-Menhali underlined that high-quality education that meets the needs of development and responds to the demands of the age and its rapid changes is the way to build national capacities and achieve the goals of development, in order to enable the State keep pace with the advanced countries.

A film about the march of excellence for the outstanding winners of the 2018 award in various categories and their future aspirations to serve their country was displayed during the ceremony.

His Highness the Emir then honoured the winners of the Education Excellence Day award.
