Officials of Qatar Chamber held a meeting yesterday with a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia-Belarus-Armenia-Kazakhstan).
The two sides discussed means of strengthening co-operation relations between Qatari businessmen and their counterparts in the four countries in the fields of energy, trade, construction and infrastructure, agriculture, and food, among others.
Qatar Chamber vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari, who met with the head of the delegation, Natalia Lipatova, underlined the close ties between the Qatari business sector and its counterpart in the Russian Federation.
He noted that the Qatari-Russian Business Council is one of the most active councils involved in developing co-operation relations between the Qatari and Russian business communities. Al-Kuwari said the activities and meetings helped both sides familiarise themselves with investment opportunities in their respective countries.
Al-Kuwari said Qatar is focused on ensuring its food security, which can be an important area for building a strategic partnership between the two sides. He noted that Qatar plans to establish large grain storage silos as part of its plans to achieve self-sufficiency, and a pilot project for food security, which can involve Russian expertise.
“Qatari business owners are interested to be informed on the available business opportunities in Russia, and in establishing genuine partnerships with Russian companies,” al-Kuwari said.
“Qatar Chamber is encouraging businessmen to forge trade alliances and to exchange investments for the privilege of both economies,” he added.
Lipatova, on the other hand, pointed out that the objective of the visit was to explore investment requirements in the Qatari market and to hold meetings with Qatari businessmen.
