*Victory for diplomacy, says Doha
Qatar and Chad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The agreement was reached after HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani held a meeting on Tuesady with Chad's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and International Co-operation, Cherif Mahamat Zene.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and means of boosting and developing them, in addition to a number of regional and international issues of common concern.
Sheikh Mohamed hailed the step which led to the resumption of relations between the two countries, stressing that it would enhance stability and common interests.
Commenting on the development, HE Lulwah al-Khater, spokesperson for Qatar's Foreign Ministry, tweeted: "This is a victory for the diplomacy of both countries, diplomacy based on the principles of dialogue and the development of common interests that bring welfare, peace and prosperity to the peoples of the two nations."
Qatar had ordered the embassy of Chad to be closed after N'Djamena's decision to shutter the Qatari embassy following the Saudi-led bloc severing all ties with Doha on June 5.
Senegal decided to send its ambassador back to Doha in August last year, after being previously summoned for consultation. The decision was taken after His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held a telephone conversation with Macky Sall, the President of Senegal.
Senegal’s foreign ministry had announced on June 7 that it would recall its ambassador in Qatar for consultations after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut diplomatic relations with Qatar.
The Saudi-led bloc also imposed a blockade on Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting militant organisations. Qatar has denied the charges and the siege countries have not been able to produce even a single piece of evidence to prove their allegations.
