Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) yesterday launched the International Workshop on ‘Emerging Technologies in Biomedical Engineering and Tele-Medicine (ETBET’18)’, sponsored by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).
Attending the opening ceremony were QU chief strategy and development officer Dr Darwish al-Emadi, CENG dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, CENG Department of Computer Science and Engineering head Dr Sumaya al-Maadeed, QNRF executive director Dr Abdul Sattar al-Taie, and QNRF ICT Pillar senior programme manager Dr Munir Tag, as well as CENG faculty, students and staff.
The programme agenda featured presentations delivered by speakers from Qatar University, Anglia Ruskin University, British Brunel University, British University, Geneva University Hospital, Notre Dame University, Qatar Mobility Innovations Center, Tampere University of Technology, Texas A&M University at Qatar, University of Ottawa, and Universidade do Porto.
They discussed a wide range of issues such as ‘Emerging Smart Biomedical Devices and Telemedicine’, ‘3D within the Healthcare: Evolution or Revolution’, ‘Digital Twins: Multimedia for Social Good’, ‘Empowering IoT Security and Performance on Multi-core Platforms’, ‘Conceptual Data Sampling For Breast Cancer Histology Image Classification By Intensive Data Reduction’, ‘Prototyping IoT-based Applications for Healthcare and Smart Environments’, ‘Mobile Edge Computing for Smart Health Applications’, ‘IoT in Healthcare Applications: Systems Architecture and Challenges’, ‘IoT & Blockchain as Enablers for Healthcare 4.0: Opportunities & Challenges’, and more.
Dr al-Khalifa said, “Technological development is accelerating in the areas of healthcare and telemedicine. Qatar has witnessed in the last decade an unprecedented advancement in healthcare services.
Hospitals and health centres in the country are using the best communication systems to exchange information and serve patients.”
Dr al-Maadeed said, “The ETBET’18 workshop is an excellent forum to build a strong network between world-class scholars and local researchers to develop new research projects leading to innovative solutions and applications in biomedical engineering and telemedicine that serve the country.”
