Qatar Foundation (QF) has launched its Akhlaquna Award initiative, aimed at recognising and celebrating young people who display exemplary moral character for the betterment of humanity.

QF has started accepting nominations for the 2018 Akhlaquna Award for young people in Qatar aged between 15 and 35 years. The submission deadline for nominations is March 31.
If a project is submitted as a group, then at least half of the group members should be within the stated age group.
The Akhlaquna Award is an initiative announced by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of QF, during the 2017 QF convocation of graduates from the Education City in May. She highlighted that “knowledge and morality are interlinked; morals guide knowledge towards the good of humanity, they are intertwined. No civilisation has flourished without the pillars of knowledge and morality”.
The nominees are expected to embody four morals of the Akhlaquna initiative - mercy, tolerance, honesty and generosity. QF encourages the members of the public to nominate individuals or initiatives which they believe are eligible for the award. Nominations are accepted through its dedicated website, www.akhlaquna.qa
The details of the initiative were given yesterday during a press conference held at the QF headquarters. QF officials Machaille al-Naimi, president, Community Development; Mohamed Fakhroo, director, Community Outreach; and Alya al-Suwaidi, media relations officer, took part in the media briefing.
The project should embody one or more of the selected universal values and individuals can submit their projects or nominate others, whether individuals or groups. Nominees can be Qatari nationals or residents in Qatar and include local or international initiatives, which do not need to be based in the country.
A judging panel will review all the nominations, and three projects will be shortlisted for public voting through an online platform. The winner of the inaugural Akhlaquna Award will receive mentorship for the initiative and the winner will be announced during the 2018 QF Convocation 2018 to take place on May 1.
Eligibility for the award will go to those considered to have best embodied the four selected morals of the Akhlaquna initiative. The scope of the submitted initiatives should include characteristics that embody one or more of the selected universal values.
Machaille al-Naimi, president of Community Development, QF, said, “Akhlaquna is an example of QF’s commitment to inspiring the community and empowering the next generation of leaders in Qatar through recognising the work of those who are actively implementing and spreading great moral values. “We encourage all members of the community to get involved in this exciting initiative which aims to promote universal values such as mercy, tolerance, honesty, and generosity.”
“The candidates for this award are individuals who have developed projects and initiatives that strive to serve the community. At QF, we are delighted to celebrate these individuals, who personalise the values that distinguish the Prophet (PBUH), and to provide them with the support and guidance they need in order to build a better society,” Fakhroo, added .
