The Ministry of Economy and Commerce carried out surprise inspections on a large number of sports goods stores in different regions of the country in conjunction with National Sport Day in order to monitor the suppliers' compliance with Law No 8 of 2008 on consumer protection as well as ministerial laws and decisions.

These campaigns come within the framework of the ministry's keenness to regulate and monitor the markets and commercial activities in Qatar with the aim of controlling prices and detecting violations in order to protect the rights of consumers, the ministry said in a press release.

The ministry noted that during these inspection campaigns notices were issued for three irregularities - not issuing bills in Arabic, not advertising in Arabic, and not displaying the prices of services.

The ministry confirmed that it will firmly confront all those who are negligent in carrying out their obligations under the consumer protection law and its executive regulations.

It will intensify its inspection campaigns to control such practices and will refer anyone who violates laws and ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take appropriate action against him and protect the rights of consumers.

The economy ministry also urged all consumers to report any abuses or irregularities through its communication channels.
