The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano has praised the role of Qatar and its continued cooperation with the agency to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the world.
During his meeting with HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani, on the sidelines of the annual reception on the occasion of the new year, Amano expressed his deep appreciation for Qatar's contribution to supporting various programmes and the agency's projects, most recently contributing to the financing of the refurbishment of the IAEA laboratories in the Seibersdorf area of Vienna.
For his part, Sheikh Ali expressed appreciation for the cooperation and expertise provided by the IAEA to Qatar and the aspiration to expand and strengthen such cooperation in the future and to accelerate the pace of Qatar's development programmes and scientific development. 
He stressed the keenness of the State officials to continue supporting the agency to enhance its role in preventing nuclear proliferation and to assist member states to benefit from the nuclear technologies and implement their development, and economic and social programmes, especially in the fields of food, agriculture, human health and environment protection.
