Four people died in a mid-air collision between a small aeroplane and a helicopter near the town of Philippsburg in south-western Germany on Tuesday, police said.
The chopper appeared to be a rescue helicopter, a police spokesman said.
It was not clear who had been killed apart from the pilots.
Early reports said the two aircraft crashed to the ground near a quarry.
It is very rare for two aircraft to crash in mid-air, and there are so far no indications of what may have caused the collision.
