Chairman of Qatar Chamber Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said that over 14,639 new companies were registered in 2017, compared to 12,910 in 2016, recording an increase of 13.4%.

In a press statement issued by Qatar Chamber on Sunday, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani said that over 34,848 companies had renewed the commercial registration last year, noting that the total number of companies registered in the Chamber reached 76,666 companies, compared to 59,926 in 2016, recording an increase of 28%.

Sheikh Khalifa added that 32 foreign companies had entered to the Qatari market for the first time last year, of which 27 foreign companies were registered after the unjust siege imposed on the country since June 5.

He said that the number of companies established after the siege reached 73,35 companies, which affirmed that it had no impact on Qatar’s investment environment.

During the past year, the Chamber received about 52 international trade delegations from various countries of the world, and held meetings between these delegations and Qatari businessmen, during which they discussed enhancing trade cooperation, exploring available investment opportunities and the possibility of establishing alliances and partnerships. The delegations expressed willingness to enter the Qatari market and establish business in Qatar in partnership with Qatari partners.

He noted that the Chamber is working continuously to promote the investment environment in Qatar through holding meetings with visiting trade delegations, and through its participation in various regional and international conferences and meetings, in addition to the visits organized by the Qatari business delegations abroad. The Chamber conducted 14 overseas visits for the Qatari businessmen to a number of countries, and organized and participated in 14 trade fairs.

In 2017, Qatar Chamber worked to strengthen cooperation and coordination with all ministries and concerned authorities in the State, and concentrated its efforts in order to provide the best services in all sectors and to achieve a comprehensive development in committees, programs and plans.

The Chamber organized a number of forums and events that had a major role in achieving the ambitions and hopes of businessmen in order to create a constructive interaction with the business community, in addition to its efforts during the unjust siege imposed on Qatar, during which it succeeded in highlighting the role of the private sector as an active partner in economic development.
