ExxonMobil Qatar held its annual cheque presentation at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2018 awards ceremony last night.  This year, the cheque for QR3.65mn was presented to Rise International for the Educate A Child (EAC) programme, ExxonMobil Qatar said in a press statement.

The programme falls under the auspices of Education Above All Foundation (EAA), which was established in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser to build a global movement that contributes to human, social and economic development through the provision of quality education.
The cheque will help provide educational opportunities to communities around the world that are stricken by poverty or crisis, the statement notes.
Alistair Routledge, president and general manager for ExxonMobil Qatar, and Fahad al-Sulaiti, chief executive officer of EAA, took part in the cheque presentation that was also attended by Nasser bin Ghanim al-Khelaifi, president of Qatar Tennis Federation, and Andrew P Swiger, senior vice-president, Exxon Mobil Corporation.
EAA is one of ExxonMobil Qatar’s key education partners. In 2013, ExxonMobil pledged an $8mn contribution to Educate A Child - an initiative of EAA. The four-year contribution is supporting programmes in Nigeria and, as education partners, they are exploring potential programmes in Papua New Guinea, Angola and Tanzania to help EAA reduce the number of children around the world with no or limited access to education.
“We share Education Above All’s belief that education is the key to progress and prosperity. Education drives economic destiny and enables people to work together to create strong, skilled and thriving communities,” Routledge said. “The education of one child creates a positive ripple effect, and its impact reaches far beyond the child to influence their family and country. This is why ExxonMobil supports global programmes that encourage greater access to education as a critical means of increasing opportunities for social and economic development.”
“We are honoured to be part of Education Above All’s noble cause of helping women and children around the world learn lifelong skills that will equip them for the rest of their lives,” added Routledge.
“EAA’s Educate A Child programme is proud to partner with ExxonMobil and RISE International in Angola to ensure a further 24,000 out-of-school children into quality primary education. It is through important multi-sectoral partnerships, such as this, that EAC is able to reach many more of the most marginalised out-of-school children globally,” said Mary Joy Pigozzi, executive director, Educate A Child.
ExxonMobil partners with local education organisations to ensure that all of Qatar’s children have access to quality education. In a society of the future, education will play an essential role in creating the knowledge-based economy His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani envisions for Qatar, the statement adds.
