Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that the practical response to the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is to consolidate the recognition of the Palestinian state and expand its circle, calling on Washington to back down from this unjust, dangerous and irresponsible decision.
Speaking during a speech at the emergency session of the Arab Parliament to discuss the repercussions of US President Donald Trump’s move on Jerusalem, Aboul Gheit said the Arab League will work in every possible way to address the consequences of the resolution, in order to preserve its historical and religious status, stressing that Trump’s latest decision was totally condemned and rejected.
The secretary-general also called on the US to reverse its decision. 
A delegation from the Advisory Council represented Qatar at the emergency session of the Arab Parliament, which started yesterday.
The Arab Parliament called for holding an urgent Arab summit in order to rally as much support as possible towards ending Israeli occupation of Palestine and its capital, Jerusalem.
The Arab Parliament, in a statement held Washington responsible for impacts of the decision on international peace and security.
The State of Palestine has full sovereignty over territories occupied in 1967 including Jerusalem, the members of the Arab Parliament said. They called on the UN Security Council and UN General Assembly to annul the US decision, and affirm the legal status of Jerusalem.
They said the UN should take the lead in the peace process because the US “has become a dishonest and unacceptable” mediator. 
They formed teams to visit African and European parliaments to rally further support against the US decision.
