Strong winds will continue to affect the country until Tuesday, the Qatar Met department has said, adding that these conditions will add to the chill factor and make it feel cooler.

The weather office has also informed that marine warnings will remain in place until the beginning of Wednesday.

In view of the expected conditions, the Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid going into the sea during this period.

In a report on Sunday, the department cited latest weather chart updates and said the country would continue “to be affected by fresh to strong northwesterly winds until Tuesday, December 12”.

The wind speed is expected to range from 15-25 knots and reach a high of 30 knots in some areas, while the wave height offshore will range between 7ft and 10ft, going up to 14ft in some areas, as marine warnings continue until the beginning of Wednesday, December 13.

In addition, visibility is expected to drop below 2km in some areas due to blowing dust.

Meanwhile, cold weather conditions will continue at night with temperatures remaining around their average levels. The minimum is expected to range between 11C and 18C and the maximum between 19C and 24C across the country, the report states.

It will feel cooler than what it actually is due to the chilly winds, the Met department adds.

The detailed forecast for Monday says mild daytime conditions are expected inshore along with slight to blowing dust in some places at times. It will be cold by night.

Offshore, slightly dusty conditions are likely at times.

Northwesterly winds may reach a high of 28 knots in inshore areas and 33 knots offshore.

Visibility, on the other hand, may drop to 3km or less, even as the sea level rises to 12ft.

The minimum temperature on Monday is expected to be 12C in Abu Samra, 14C in Al Khor, Wakrah and Mesaieed, 16C in Doha, 17C in Dukhan and 19C in Ruwais.

Sunday, the mercury level dipped to 12C in Turayna and Karana, while in Doha it was 16C.
