Lukasek helms two winners — Owaida Salem al-Hajri-trained Tijan and Hadi Nasser al-Ramzani’s charge, Poet’s Song

Mohanad al-Yaqout’s MJ Lattam and Saeed al-Shafi’s Nomaas impressed with wins over better rated horses in the two dirt features at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) yesterday.
Marvin Suerland had Nomaas move up front in the nine-furlong Doha Cup for local Purebred Arabians, ahead of Injaaz Stud’s Al Marboush and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Reda, and the three finished in that order, as Zuhair Mohsen’s charge registered his first win since February 2015 at the QREC.
In the penultimate race of the day, Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim helmed MJ Lattam to a close victory in the Al Daayen Cup, a Purebred Arabians Conditions event.
The six-furlong sprint saw Mutazz holding a slight advantage early on with Jassim Mohamed Ghazali-trained Caid de l’Ardus in pursuit under Harry Bentley.
On to the home stretch, Bentley and his partner moved up but MJ Lattam made it into a duel and eventually edged out the former by a head for a fine win.
Saleem Golam-ridden Shabbab did enough to hold on by narrowest of margins as Khalid Nasser al-Naimi-trained Parkes and Ride made a late run in the Class 3 Thoroughbred Handicap race for horses rated 70-90.
Deborah Mountain-trained Shabbab had moved into the lead early on, and stayed up front right till the end as Gerald Avranche-ridden Parkes and Ride came threateningly close in the last 100m of the race. Eventually Parkes and Ride finished second ahead of Mohamed Jassim Ghazali’s Al Maftoon.
Jockey Tomas Lukasek helmed two winners on the day, first guiding Owaida Salem Mohamed al-Hajri-trained Tijan to victory in the nine furlong Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 70 & below before, helming Hadi Nasser al-Ramzani’s charge, Poet’s Song, in a comfortable win in the six-furlong Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 85 and below.
Earlier in the day, Umm Qarn’s Deebah and Mansoor Khalil al-Mansoori’s Khoud registered their first career wins, winning the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for fillies and mares and Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate events respectively.
Mohamed Hussain-trained Risk Adjusted won his second straight run, and Tasslam registered his second career victory, topping the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate event for maidens, one- and two-time winners, and the Local Purebred Arabian Novice Plate events respectively.
Tasslam was ridden to victory in the evening’s first race by Qatari rider Khalid Abdulaziz al-Kuwari.
