Sweden’s defender Martin Olsson (C) fights for the ball with Italy’s defender Andrea Barzagli during the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification football match between Italy and Sweden, on November 13, 2017 at the San Siro stadium in Milan.

Four-time champions Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958 after being held to a 0-0 draw in Milan by Sweden who booked a place for Russia 2018 with a 1-0 aggregate win yesterday. Sweden survived wave after wave of Italian attacks in the second leg of their European playoff on a night of tension and drama at a disbelieving San Siro.
