The Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) and Hasselt University Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed by QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham and Hasselt University rector Prof Luc De Schepper in the presence of QTTSC assistant research professor Dr Wael Alhajyaseen.
The terms of the MoU include collaboration between the two institutions in the field of education and research.
CENG dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa said: “This MoU reflects CENG commitment to provide solutions to challenges in the area of traffic safety and to raise community awareness about the importance of traffic safety. It will contribute to strengthening links with IMOB for further collaborations in research and development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”
Prof Schepper said: “Sharing knowledge makes good science and co-operating with universities and research institutes from around the world makes research even better. It expands your horizon, widens your frame of reference as a researcher and confronts you with fellow researchers who approach a topic or idea in a sometimes entirely new way - adding different perspectives and approaches. I am positive many new opportunities will lie in wake of this unique co-operation between Qatar University and Hasselt University.”
Dr Alhajyaseen said: “The collaboration with Hasselt University Transportation Research Institute is part of the active international activities that the centre is developing to establish novel and sound research programmes that yield to economically feasible, socially viable and environmental friendly solutions to transportation and traffic safety issues in the State of Qatar and the international community.”
