Qatar organised a special high-level event on the sidelines of the 7th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, currently in session in Vienna with the participation of more than 100 officials and experts.
The event, entitled “United Nations Convention against Corruption, Policies on Integrity, Transparency and Prevention of Corruption”, discussed the importance of focusing on the preventive aspect in strengthening national efforts to combat corruption in general, and the role of the mechanisms for reviewing international conventions in this regard by presenting the efforts of relevant international organisations and national experiences and practices.
HE Saad bin Ibrahim al-Mahmoud, Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, and head of Qatar’s delegation to the conference, reviewed Qatar’s efforts in promoting transparency and integrity at the national, regional and international levels, and highlighted the great legislative development in the State in the fields of public service, tenders and auctions.
On the other hand, a number of prominent government representatives presented their countries’ experiences in promoting transparency and integrity at the national level. A number of officials from prominent international organisations  also shared their experiences and best practices in promoting transparency and integrity. According to the level of attendance, the Qatari event was the most effective event organised on the sidelines of the conference.
