The Italian embassy in Doha has increased by 50% the number of student visas for Qataris aimed at supporting the country’s vision to invest in education and human development, it was announced.
“Italy offers the most qualified academic options for the young Qatari talents and 927 university courses entirely taught in English, ranging from engineering to economics, from architecture to medicine, and from law to humanitarian studies,” Italian ambassador Pasquale Salzano told Gulf Times.
In addition, the envoy said that Italy also offers courses in archaeology, history, music, political science, and fashion and design.
“Our ambition would be to establish a school of Italian design and fashion here in Doha,” Salzano said, adding that such move will further strengthen the bilateral co-operation between the two countries in the field of education and culture and arts.
He also lauded Qatar’s efforts in hosting what he described as “impressive number of cultural events” regularly, thanks to its multicultural community.
According Salzano, preparations are underway for the “Italian Week” in Qatar from November 20 to 26, which will feature a series of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions and cooking shows across Qatar.
“We are working with renowned chefs to bring them to Qatar during the week, to have cooking lessons and special dinners in a network of partner restaurants,” he said.
The embassy wants to present the idea of “Vivere all’italiana”, the Italian way to a healthy lifestyle: eating well, keeping fit and staying healthy.
“We will do this through dedicated seminars and workshop with world renowned experts coming from Italy who will present and discuss in interactive sessions the benefits of an healthy lifestyle,” the envoy said.
In 2018, he pointed out that the Mena region will be the focus of their promotional activity through the programme “Italia, Culture, Mediterraneo”. It is a programme of cultural and scientific initiatives and events aimed at promoting cultural co-operation as a tool of dialogue and mutual understanding among people.
Italy is also taking part for the first time in the Heya Fashion Show, starting on November 3. The embassy will bring Italian stylists and fashion designers to the event, not only to exhibit their products, but to take part in workshops and fashion shows.
“This is to further enhance the potential co-operation between Italian fashion and local designers,” Salzano added.
